Baby Chicks | The Homestead

| Welcome |
the newest little additions to the Hurzeler Homestead

Our new little chicks are way too fuzzy & cute not to get some fun pics of while they are tiny.  Eli built me a chicken coop so we can enjoy the benefits of fresh eggs and these quirky little ladies clucking around our yard.

I "may" have turned into a crazy chicken lady overnight, please don't judge me!
I think my inner child and artist have found a happy place. ;)

Had to share some of this cuteness!
They were the best behaved models I've ever worked with... aside from the pooping. Ew.

Happy Spring!!
Love,
Heather Hurzeler

Snohomish | Antique capital of the NW!

:: Historic Downtown Snohomish ::

Welcome to the place we call home, Snohomish, WA! Our 1901 home and photography studio is just a five minute walk away from downtown. We thought it would be fun to share with you a little taste of Snohomish, one of our favorite places!

"The heart and soul of the City of Snohomish, Washington is nestled in the lush Snohomish River Valley, a showcase of breathtaking  Washington State grandeur. You’ll find shopping, dining, music and relaxing strolls in and around the historic district. This Antique Capital of the Northwest also hosts over 30 tempting specialty shops, 25 restaurants and taverns, and spas and salons...all in a fun and funky setting with lots of Northwest history to explore." -- Historic Downtown Snohomish

Come check it out!

We love all the beautiful churches, tall steeples, and gorgeous wedding venues here. We will be posting more "a special on Snohomish wedding venues" soon!

There is no lack of antique shopping! This store front is one of my favorites!
  Snohomish Fudge Town
Laineemeg Bridal, brides-to-be... you MUST check out this gorgeous wedding gown shop!

Another favorite of mine (if you already haven't realized) I adore all things vintage, especially clothing and jewelry! Check out DMarie Vintage for some unique fun wardrobe pieces!

Artist David Hose as he is painting a patriotic mural for American Legion Post 96.

Thanks for allowing us to share a little about our hometown, we would love to meet you in Snohomish or anywhere in the Seattle area!

Love,
Eli & Heather of Hurzeler Photography

Art Cottage | creative spaces

the cottage.

I am so excited to share one of my new favorite places with you. Our art studio, a rustic tiny space, with old french doors, whimsical windows and a little front porch.
It's a creative little get-away in our backyard... away from the phones, internet and computers.
A place to just be inspired by nature, open the doors wide, listen to the birds, the water falling softly into the pond and laughter of our kids playing in the grass.

Art, painting is my first love. I love being able to create either on canvas or from behind the lens.
But, there is always something about wet paint and texture... being able to start with a blank canvas and create something from nothing. It inspires the way I shoot as a photographer.

Here is a little glimpse inside our art cottage. It's still a work in progress... someday soon the outside will get a paint job. Still deciding on the perfect color.
I'd love your suggestions!

You can see more of my artwork, an inquire on paintings at my website here.

What inspires you? Do you have a creative corner or space in your home?
I'd love it if you would share about it in the comments below! :)

Love,
Heather Hurzeler

Many layers of years past | area 51

:: a remodel project | area 51 ::

Decades ago... 1901, walls layered with many thick layers of torn wallpaper.
Let me introduce you to one of the rooms I find most fascinating in our 1901 home.

Time gone. Colors and styles faded. Worn wood floors. This is the room we so lovingly refer to as Area 51.

I promised a few "remodel" photos of our new home... but as an artist I can promise I won't be posting your typical photos along the way.  I have had enough scraping of wallpaper for now, something I can assure you is now on my top 10 "things I hate" list.  Obviously this is a beautiful work in progress, a creative space begging to be photographed. Call me crazy but I see it as a beautiful mess.

This room had the layers of wallpaper stuccoed over, worn carpet over the original wood floors... we are in the process of stripping it back to it's original beauty.   I wonder who has made these walls their own over the past 100+ years? I love a good mystery.

 Love,
The Hurzelers

Home Sweet Home | Snohomish

We are starting to get settled into our new place!
Don't miss out on our discount offer for this month, we would love to meet some new faces here in Snohomish and extend this coupon to our past clients as well.

Welcome!!

Our new home is a 1901 Craftsman just a couple minute walk from the heart of downtown Snohomish, we adore it and all it's charm and quirkiness. She was built with so much tender loving care and one of our favorite things about her is the backyard sanctuary.

We may dedicate a small little section of our blog, "This Old House" to share a little more personal side of the "going ons" and before/afters of the many home projects we have ahead of us. We would also love to have you over to our new home studio... don't mind the dust as we polish this old lady back up to a beautiful shine! ;)

We spent this past week cleaning, doing yard work and some major fix it projects around the house.
There was a house under all that growth, check out the before/after of the front after just a week!
Those blackberry bushes and thorns are mean stuff, we are covered in scratches... but it was worth it! ;)

Just a tiny tid bit from our week:
1. Slugs are really gross, collected and got rid of bucket fulls from the backyard.... yes bucket fulls! bleck!
2. This Arizona girl learned what a sump pump was and how to use & clear one. We have two!
3. We love old homes and can't wait to share the secrets of ours with you!

Welcome to our garden... as you can see we have a sweet spot for garden gnomes.
Our yard is now home to many little fellows tucked up & hidden among the flowers.
I think they add just the right amount of quirky artsy flair to keep the garden from feeling to formal.

What glorious weather and sunshine we have been having this first week of July! We have a hand full of slots available this month a great time for a family session & engagement sessions!

Drop us an e-mail or call to say hi!
We'd love to hear from you as we get settled in the city of Snohomish.

Love,
